Some 20,000 attendees are expected at CeBIT 2015, which will take place out of town at the Sydney Olympic Park, after the little-loved but centrally located harbourside Sydney Convention Centre was knocked down last year. Last year’s show attracted only 18,500 attendees, down from 22000 in 2013 .
Hannover Fairs chief Jackie Taranto, who was in charge of proceedings for 14 years, has moved on. New CEO is Harvey Stockbridge. The show will take place over three days: tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday.
Major imported speakers this year will include the much-loved and very witty Guy Kawasaki, once Apple’s chief evangelist and these days evangelising for a design outfit called Canva; Kevin Mitnick, described as a “chief white hat hacker”; Andrew Ng, chief scientist at Baidu and founder of Google’s Brain Project; former NASA CTO Chris Kempt; and RedBalloon founding director Naomi Simson.
The Internet of Things is tipped to be a major object of discussion, along with cyber security and mobile tech. Some 450 exhibitors are expected to have stands at the accompanying CeBit Expo.
