As Optus seeks to recover from its World Cup fiasco, Telstra has reportedly set a new Australian streaming record – broadcasting sports across the most number of devices in a single weekend, a whopping 1.2 million.

As per The Sydney Morning Herald, during the weekend of August 10 – 11 over a million devices accessed Telstra’s sports’ apps to stream AFL, NRL and netball.

At one point, 82,120 viewers reportedly streamed the Hawthorn vs Geelong AFL match, with the highest number of simultaneous streaming viewers previously 109,000.

Based on their plan, select Telstra customers receive data-free streaming via Telstra Live Pass apps, following a partnership between the telco and sporting codes.

In the last year, Live Pass subscribers have reportedly soared 92% to 2.3 million individuals.

Customers streaming games has also jumped 58% in the last season, with around 40 million minutes of live content streamed over Telstra apps in an average weekend.

Telstra has continued to enhance its content offering as the fight against Optus accelerates, with the telco recently inking a five year digital rights deal for Football Federation Australia.
