Samsung Electronics has given consumers an unprecedented look its first foldable phone – the Galaxy Fold – by debuting a 4-minute commercial of the US$1,980 smartphone.

Despite a noticeable lack of audio, the video offers the most amount of hands-on usage with the flagship handset yet.

The Galaxy Fold will launch in America in April for US$1,980, and is tipped to land locally in coming months for ~A$3,000.

The video highlights several capabilities including device-to-device wireless charging, foldable functionality, gaming usability and various colour options.

The highly-anticipated Galaxy Fold welcomes a new era of smartphones, with the category gaining entrants from the likes of Huawei and TCL.

Whilst promoting innovation in a landscape of sluggish flagship phone sales, some commentators question whether the device’s high price tag will hamper growth.
