Amazon Australia has notched a 17% lift in online shoppers this year, as coronavirus lockdown measures trigger a buying boom according to latest figures from e-comm analyst Pattern.

Reported by The Australian, a new survey from Pattern revealed the number of shoppers buying from Amazon Australia lift from 30% to 47% in the last twelve months.

Around 30% of respondents claim lockdown measures where one of the prompting buying triggers.

Pattern figures reveal Australians are also using Amazon’s US site less than its Aussie subsidiary – down from 35% last year to 13%.

Australian shoppers reportedly also use Amazon Australia for price comparison purposes.

Reflecting broader industry trends, a whopping 53% of respondents admit they have purchased more online this year than last, prompt by lockdown measures.

Market commentators predict that a preference towards e-commerce will linger post the coronavirus pandemic, as online shopping comfortability grows.

The news comes as most Aussie retailers notch strong online shopping growth this year, with embattled department store Myer notching a 175% increase, and JB Hi-Fi up 33%.
