Aussie businesses have embraced technology at a historic rate during the coronavirus crisis, implementing as much new technology in the last year than in the previous decade.

Reported by AFR, new research from Accenture’s AlphaBeta claims a spike in videoconferencing, file sharing and remote working has contributed to the landmark technology uptake.

The research, commissioned by Microsoft, found tech-based tools helped to retain the jobs of 3.4 million Australians, who otherwise would not have been able to continue working.

Over 60% of local firms have taken to videoconferencing, with virtual private networks and remote access harnessed by over 22%.

The research revealed Australian companies who used more technology were found to be more resilient during the coronavirus pandemic – reflected in revenue and jobs.

The companies that were among the best positioned harnessed a combination of new technology and personnel training, underpinned by new operational processes.

Workplace practises which integrated digital tools were found to have a positive impact on operations and personnel, supporting both mental health and productivity.
