Amazon’s unprecedented Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales have kicked off the ecommerce retailer’s biggest holiday season yet.

As the coronavirus drives more customers to buy online, Amazon enjoyed billions of dollars’ worth of sales over the four-day shopping event.

In a blog post, Amazon said independent merchants on its platform collected more than $4.8 billion in sales from Black Friday through to Cyber Monday, up more than 60% from 2019.

However, Amazon did not reveal how much money the retailer made itself during the sale, instead focussing on the small and medium businesses it hosts online.

The tech giant did reveal some of its own products were bestsellers during the sale, including the Echo Dot smart speaker and Amazon Fire Stick.

Best sellers on Cyber Monday in the U.S. included the all-new Echo Dot, Echo Show 5, Nintendo Switch Fortnite Wildcat Bundle, iRobot Roomba Vacuum, Connect 4 Strategy Board Game, and BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Cordless Drill.

“In a holiday season unlike any other, it’s clear that customers still want great deals on gifts for their loved ones or a little something extra for themselves, and we’re glad to help deliver smiles throughout the season,” said Jeff Wilke, CEO, Amazon Worldwide Consumer.

“Thank you to our customers, employees, and selling partners around the world for making this our biggest holiday season to date, and for everything you’re doing to support our communities and each other now and throughout the year.”

During the results call out, Amazon forecasted a Q4 revenue of $112 billion – $121 billion.
