Telstra is winding down its long-running BigPond e-mail service, replacing it with an all-new service for home broadband customers, dubbed simply Telstra Mail.

Telstra says that all new customers will automatically receive a free Telstra Mail service as part of their home broadband plan.

Existing BigPond and Telstra.com customers will be progressively moved in coming months to Telstra Mail. “Your existing e-mails and contacts and e-mail addresses will be moved and your e-mail address will stay the same,” Telstra says. Current e-mail addresses can be kept.

According to Nick Ruddock, Telstra’s mobile products director, Telstra Mail will also provide a simple e-mail solution to use across PCs, Macs, mobiles and tablets; improved security and spam filtering; and 10GB mailbox storage – double the current limit.

Telstra is also shifting its Outlook.com customers off the Microsoft service and onto Telstra Mail.
