With LG and Google abandoning the premise, Motorola have been left as the last man standing when it comes to modular smartphones and the company are prepared to build on that foundation with a new range of upcoming MotoMods.

The company are partnering with crowdsourcing platform IndieGoGo develop concepts for new MotoMods.

The Moto Mods Developer contest invites budding developers to submit MotoMod concepts, attend hackathons in San Francisco and New York in December, and, once they have a working prototype of their MotoMods, launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo

Ten finalists will ultimately be selected to win a trip to Motorola headquarters in Chicago to meet with the Moto Mods executive team who will help refine and bring the idea to life.

Verizon Ventures and Lenovo Capital have set aside $1 million in potential funding for ideas that stand out.
