The biggest assembler of Apple devices, Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology, has revealed it is in preliminary discussions to expand the company’s US operations. The disclosure came hours after SoftBank’s announcement that it will invest US$50 billion in the US and create 50,000 jobs, following the election of Donald Trump.

Foxconn, formerly known as Hon Hai Precision, said it would announce details following direct discussions between its executives and the relevant US officials.

The Taiwan-based manufacturer assembles iPhones, iPads and other Apple hardware in China, as well as computers and appliances for other global brands.

Donald Trump has called for Apple to move production away from China and back to the US to create jobs.
