First it was Samsung with their Note 7 now apple has a new battery problem that resulted in one of their stores having to be evacuated due to an exploding iPhone battery.

When an iPhone overheated in an Apple store overnight, injuring an Apple employee, an immediate evacuation of more than 50 people staff and consumers had to be initiated according to Swiss police said.

Seven people were injured in the incident with terrified consumers spilling out into Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most expensive and exclusive shopping avenues.

Specialists from the Zurich Forensic Institute are investigating what caused the battery to overheat.

Firefighters, several ambulances and an emergency vehicle attended the scene.

Zurich police said the incident occurred as the repair worker was removing the battery, which overheated and burned his hand slightly. apple has not given any explanation for the incident.

“At the same time, there was a build-up of smoke, resulting in customers and employees having to leave the business temporarily,” a police statement said.

“The staff responded well and correctly. It sprinkled quartz sand over the overheated battery so that the smoke could be contained and sucked out after switching on the ventilation.”

Seven people received medical treatment but did not need to be hospitalized.

 

Forensic specialists were examining what caused the incident, police said.
