Notable tech analyst and ‘leaker’, Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI, has quashed speculation Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy Note 9 will embed a fingerprint scanner directly within the phone’s screen.

Speculation emerged Samsung would integrate an in-display fingerprint reader to its Galaxy S9 or Note 9 smartphone, following a patent publication.

Ming-Chi Kuo was one of the early proponents of such speculation, however, has now reversed his stance.

Recent reports reveal Samsung has axed the Note 9’s in-display finger scanner, as neither the ultrasonic reader (by Qualcomm) or optical reader have met the South Korean company’s technical requirements.

Such modules are reportedly 4 – 6 times more expensive than today’s common capacitive sensors.

Interestingly, Kuo predicts the majority of Android smartphone makers will favour facial recognition rather than an in-display fingerprint scanner.
