Statista’s latest data has revealed the majority of ‘baby boomers’ are officially on-board with new technology – whilst smartphones and laptops dominate the demographic, smart speakers and wearables trail well behind.

As the findings are specific to America, it’s important to note Australian buying decisions are somewhat different. ChannelNews is currently pursuing a study into local baby boomers’ buying behaviour.

A new study by the American Associated of Retired Persons (AARP) reveals baby boomers are consistent with their adoption of new technologies. Adoption is largely to keep in touch with family and friends.

According to the AARP, 7 in 10 American consumers aged over 50 own a smartphone, while 9 in 10 consumers own a desktop PC or laptop.

Smartphones rank the most used ‘smart device’ within the baby boomer segment, followed by laptops, desktops and tablets.

For consumers aged 70+ desktop PCs come in top position, almost equally followed by laptops and smartphones.
