Telstra is seeking federal law changes to allow it to block Internet traffic that it believes may be malicious.  The telco is currently building a global network of security operations centres, meaning it can often see attacks as they’re forming, according to security solutions director Neil Campbell.

However Campbell, a former Federal Police computer crimes investigator, said the Crimes Act currently limits its ability to act against traffic it believes is malicious.

“We’ll see that traffic – but right now we don’t believe we have a clear legal mandate to interfere with it,” he told IT News.
