Apple has reportedly dropped Ring’s video doorbell page from its HomeKit website, raising concerns about the Californian giant’s decision to support the smart security device in the future.

Commentators claim the move is linked with Amazon’s $1.1 billion purchase of Ring early this year.

Spotted by Trusted Reviews, the ‘Works with HomeKit’ page no longer lists ‘doorbells’ alongside other IoT supported kits (e.g. air conditioners, locks).

Neither Apple nor Amazon-owned Ring have fulfilled their pledges to update the device’s HomeKit connections.

For Ring, it was a particularly notable update, given it’s association with Amazon’s Alexa.

Today’s news raises speculation Apple has given up on the endeavour.

According to AppleInsider, the Californian-giant’s heavy encryption demands may have caused issues for Ring.

Other commentators claim Apple’s decision to drop Ring from its HomeKit may indicate the development of a company-owned rival device.
