ABC Managing Director Sacked

Government backed broadcaster, ABC, has today terminated the contract of Managing Director Michele Guthrie, two and a half years into a five year term.

Earlier this morning, ABC’s board confirmed Guthrie would no longer be leading the business, advising it was not “in the best interests” of the company.

Guthrie joined the ABC in December 2015, after her time as Google Asia’s Managing Director of Agencies.

Whilst thanking Guthrie for her efforts, ABC Chairman Justin Milne claims new leadership will benefit ABC’s staff and audience.

ABC Director of Entertainment, David Anderson, has been appointed Acting Manager Director whilst the broadcaster searches for a replacement.

Chairman Milne asserts the decision was “entirely” made by the ABC’s board, with the Australian government not involved.

During Guthrie’s tenure, around 200 jobs were slashed from the ABC in last year, coupled with other internal restructures.

According to the Australian Financial Review, Guthrie is “considering” legal options over potential unfair dismal.
