Amazon has released its Alexa Announcements smart home product in Australia, allowing devices enabled by its Echo solution to share quick messages around the house.

“Simply say ‘Alexa, announce dinner is ready’ and the machine will convey the message in your voice to all other compatible devices,” the company said in its announcement.

Alexa Announcements also features sound effects for common household announcements such as ‘it’s bedtime’, which plays a twinkle twinkle effect, or ‘the movie is about to start, which plays a tune followed by the announcement.

Users can also send a message via the Alexa app, meaning they don’t need to actually be at home when giving the instructions.

It will be initially rolled out on Echo devices such as Echo Plus, Echo Dot, and Echo Spot, as well as Sonos One and Sonos Beam, Amazon said.
