E-commerce behemoth, Amazon, has for the first revealed its Prime shipment numbers, revealing that over 5 billion items were shipped globally via the subscription-based service in 2017.

Whilst the company did not provide comparable full-year shipment numbers for 2016, Amazon did disclose that it added more new Prime members than ever before, last year.

The e-commerce giant claims its Fire TV stick and smart speaker, Echo Dot, were the best selling products for American-based Prime members, surpassing any manufacturer in any product category.

Amazon’s Prime service offers global customers accelerated delivery speeds, and unlimited streaming through Prime Video.

Prime is now available in 16 countries globally, following expansion into the Netherlands and Singapore last year.

Amazon Prime will be available to Australia consumers, however, Amazon Australia is yet to provide an official launch date.
