Amazon Prime Video has launched its Prime Video Store in Australia, allowing viewers to rent or buy new films via primevideo.com or the Prime Video app available on Smart TVs, Android mobile devices and gaming consoles.

The cost of renting and buying movies varies between titles. Most films can be rented for $5, though newly released films can cost as much as $20 to rent. The cost of buying most films generally ranges $13-25.

This is somewhat expensive in some cases. For example, the Amazon Prime Video Store is renting out the new Lion King film for $5.99 or viewers can purchase it for $24.99. By comparison, a Disney+ subscription costs just $8.99 for a month.

The Prime Video Store will offer blockbuster films from the likes of Disney and Warner Bros, to locally made productions. At the moment, the Australian Prime Video Store is offering titles such as ‘Emma’, ‘Invisible Man’, ‘Salt’, and ‘Men In Black’, among many others.

“We’ve seen how much our customers enjoy the large selection of new release movies available to rent or buy on the Prime Video Store in the US, UK, Germany and Japan, so we’re delighted to roll this service out in France, Italy, Spain, Canada and Australia today,” said Mike Hopkins, Senior Vice President of Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Studios.
