BRISBANE: US e-commerce giant Amazon is about to start construction on a new fulfilment facility in Brisbane, its first Queensland venture. The company plans to build a warehouse and distribution centre in Goodman’s Port Industry Park, Lytton, which is expected to create around 170 construction jobs.

When the building is completed, Amazon will employ around 200 people in various positions.

The e-commerce giant has promised to sell a raft of Queensland local products online from the warehouse.

Amazon’s commitment follows a concerted campaign by the Queensland Government over several years to attract the company to Brisbane.

It’s ideal timing for the centre, with more people turning to online shopping in the wake of Covid-19.

Last year Australians spent around $27 billion on online goods and services.
