Apple has updated its Apple Watch with a new function that lets user listen to audiobooks and podcasts without having to use an iPhone.

The new feature takes advantage of watchOS 5, which Apple launched last week which allows third-party apps like Audible to play background audio from the watch.

Users will still be required to sync the book from their iPhone or iPad, because the Apple Watch still doesn’t support streaming from third-party apps.

The Audible app also lets users sync audiobooks to their Apple Watch via Bluetooth, but the time taken to download will depend on the size of the novel.

The app is available as a free download from the App Store.
