Apple has signed Spotify’s former head of label relations in a bid to lure in more independent music labels globally.

Spotify’s former VP of Content Steve Savoca left the company in August 2016 after five years before joining Apple last month, an Apple spokesperson told Business Insider.

Savoca worked mostly with small independent labels at Spotify to increase and diversify the company’s music library, with a particular focus on international artists. He is expected to fill a similar role in his new position at Apple Music.

Spotify remains the most popular music streaming service with over 40 million subscribers as of October, about double the number of subscribers of Apple Music.
