Almost as soon as they were announced, Apple’s wireless AirPods were hit with the criticism of being easier to lose than their wired (and cheaper) counterparts. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for someone to launch an app designed to address this likely scenario.

However, the “Finder for AirPods” app has now been removed for the App Store without an official explanation by Apple.

If you already purchased the app, you can request a refund through iTunes.

It’s unknown at this stage what reason Apple could have for removing the app. Far from malicious or deceptive, the simple app used the AirPods’ Bluetooth signal to track the earbuds down, indicating whether users were warmer or colder as the signal increased or decreased in strength. It’s a little rudimentary (and won’t work if your AirPods are out of battery) but hardly any less user-friendly than Apple’s own AirPod replacement policy.

Apple has yet to officially comment.
