Indonesia has been considering a 20 percent luxury-goods sales tax on imported smartphones to encourage phone makers to manufacture products in the country.
Australia’s nearest Asian neighbour imported US$2.8 billion of mobile phones last year, its second-largest import after crude oil and oil products.
