Less than 30 people have turned up to the launch of the iPhone 8 today at the Apple Store on George Street, Sydney.

Reuters reported the lower than usual turnout, which it described as “bleak”, was related to the later release of the iPhone X, with fans said to be holding out for the tenth anniversary iPhone’s release in early November.

The first person in line, Mazen Kourouche, waited in line at the Sydney Apple Store for 11 days, and had initially hoped to pick up the iPhone X, rather than the iPhone 8.

“There aren’t too many new features to this one,” Kourouche told Reuters.

Demand for the iPhone 8 has been “substantially lower” than previous versions according to both an Australian carrier and a major retailer.

Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy Note 8, was also released in Australia today.
