CBS has confirmed its local streaming on demand service ‘Ten All Access’ will launch in December, igniting competition against Netflix and Aussie-owned Stan.
The service will be CBS’ third subscription streaming service globally, following the United States and Canada.
Commentators predict Ten All Access will cost between $6 – $7 per month, with American ‘CBS All Access’ charging US$5.99/month with ads.
As per The Australian Ten Chief Content Officer, Beverley McGarvey, claims the network and CBS will explore “co-productions” from next year, focused on reality TV.
In Australia, Stan retains local rights for several CBS-owned Showtime shows, with All Access unable to stream certain content upon launch. Other popular broadcast rights are held by SBS – e.g. The Good Fight.
McGarvey claims funds previously spent on Big Bash cricket content will now be invested on three key shows, running between summer and autumn – a revamped ‘Changing Rooms’, ‘Dancing with the Stars’, plus ‘Chris and Julia’s Sunday Night Takeaway’. The figure is tipped to be around $20 million.
Users will have to wait and see what content launches on Ten All Access, assessing competitiveness against Netflix, Stan and Foxtel.
