TAIPEI: The world’s second largest laptop manufacturer, Taiwanese electronics company Compal, has denied reports that it has been hit by a ransomware attack.

Compal factories build laptops for Apple, Acer, Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, HP, and Fujitsu.

According to the reports, an incident did impact the company’s internal office network, but laptop production lines have not been impacted.

Compal also would not give details about the incident, saying only that the company suffered a security breach.

“The company is not being blackmailed by hackers, as is rumoured by the outside world,” according to a Compal executive.
