Labor senator Stephen Conroy has called for NBN Co chairman Ziggy Switkowski to resign over what he claims were “illegal” AFP raids on his office ordered by Ziggy in May as part of an investigation of leaked NBN documents.

Speaking on ABC’s RN Drive program, the former communications minister also demanded an apology from both Switkowski and current Comms Minister Mitch Fifield over the affair.

He claimed the police raids were illegal because NBN Co lacked the power to make referrals to the AFP.

Switkowski was found to have knowingly breached election-time caretaker conventions when he published an article defending the AFP action.

He had neither resigned nor apologised yesterday.
