Some 1171 NBN services have so far been affected by floodwaters in the Rockhampton region, following the heavy rain caused by tropical cyclone Debbie last week, NBN Co has reported.

The wipeout came after two major nodes serving Airlie Beach, Bowen, Proserpine and Mackay regions were hit.

NBN Co said it is still in the process of inspecting the nodes used in its fibre-to-the-node (FttN) rollout. As of early yesterday it had inspected 160 of 200 nodes.

Many fibre to the node services were offline, due to the lack of power – that’s because FttN relies on fibre links to independently powered street cabinets.

NBN Co late last week dispatched what it calls its Road Muster satellite truck to Rockhampton to support the community. It says the truck has satellite and 4G capability as well as charging stations for electronic devices.

It can be used as a hotspot for communications by emergency services and the community.
