Facebook has begun rolling out its News section to a small number of Australian users.

Facebook News will feature content mostly from larger local news outlets.

It has struck deals with Seven West Media, Nine Entertainment, the owner of The Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Age, along with Guardian Australia.

It also has agreements with News Corp, Australian Community Media and Solstice Media, Private Media and Schwartz Media.

Facebook has also launched a $15 million news fund to invest in public-interest journalism.
