Google is close to rolling out its own dedicated podcast app, Google Podcasts.

9to5Google has spotted code in version 8.7 of the Google app showing an inactive prompt asking users to ‘get the Google Podcasts app’.

Android does not have a dedicated podcast app – unlike Apple’s iOS – with users having to download third-party apps or listen via Google Play Music. Google had a dedicated podcast app called Listen back in 2009 but shut down in 2012.

Google has been trying to get a podcast app up an running for a while now with the search engine giant building out a podcast client within the Google app.

A release date for Google Podcasts has not be mentioned so keep your ears open.
