Google is expected to release a Bluetooth tracker tag similar to the popular Tile tracker, after gaining approval from the US Federal Communications Commission.

The FCC has to approve any device that operates over radio frequencies before it can go on sale in the US.

Google filed with the FCC last month month before seeking qualification from Bluetooth earlier this month.

Google described the product with model number G022A as a “Bluetooth Tag”.

Further details are at this point unknown, but it’s believed Apple is also working on a similar product, after code contained in the iOS 13 beta similar to code used to pair Airpods and HomePod devices designated a Bluetooth device with the name “Tag1,1”.

Whether the two competing tech giants can bring anything to the table that isn’t already done by Tile or a myriad of other Bluetooth tag tracker companies remains to be seen.
