Ever since Equifax in a massive data breach last year exposed to hackers millions of US social security numbers, driver’s licence numbers, names, dates of birth and other personal information, the credit-reporting agency has gradually upped its estimates of affected consumer numbers from 143 million to 147 million.

In a filing to the US regulator Securities and Exchange Commission, the company disclosed not only how many consumers were hit, but also the types of information lost.

Names, dates of birth and social security numbers were by far the most common type of data stolen by the attackers, Equifax said. Mailing addresses, phone numbers and just under two million e-mail addresses followed close behind, and roughly 209,000 credit card numbers and card-expiration dates were taken.
