HP have released a fictional web series through its new HP Studios division to highlight cybersecurity risks for consumers and businesses.
The series, titled ‘The Wolf’, features actor Christian Slater infiltrating a company by hacking PCs and printers while taking advantage of common security vulnerabilities.
“As the universe of connected devices grows exponentially, so does the sophistication and magnitude of cyber attacks,” said Antonio Lucio, HP’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer.
Older PCs and unsecured printers are two of the major vulnerabilities of businesses, with only 2% of the hundreds of millions of office printers worldwide featuring security measures.
“HP is leading from the front to continually make meaningful progress in securing the future of computing, and The Wolf is a creative way to raise awareness of this growing challenge for companies,” Mr Lucio said.
The launch of the studio division coincides with reports that Apple is also looking to produce original video content. While it is currently unclear what content HP might release in the future, the establishment of HP Studios indicates the company is seriously exploring the potential of original content for promotion, marketing, and awareness.
