Huawei is hoping to buy its way off America’s Chinese ban list, spending over $1 million in the last three months attempting to curry favour with various Washington lobbyists.

Huawei filed disclosures yesterday that show the company spent $US1.06 million in the second quarter of 2021 on lobbyists, a figure that up $180,000 in the first quarter this year. The company listed “broadband”, “infrastructure bills”, “trade” and “digital privacy measures” as its interests.

The company is clearly hoping to wrangle its way back into the $65 billion earmarked for the 5G network, as part of a $US579 billion bipartisan infrastructure plan.
