The Chief Financial Officer of Chinese tech giant, Huawei, has lost their bid to end the United States’ extradition fight in Canada, with a judge ruling proceedings continue.

Ms Meng Wanzhou will be kept under house arrest in Vancouver, as the United States furthers its effort to prosecute, following allegations of fraud.

The news comes after Meng was arrested on US orders during a routine stopover in Vancouver.

Prosecutors allege Meng lied to banks (such as HSBC) and deceived them into processing over $100 million transactions through the US – breaching sanctions.

According to Bloomberg, the case against Meng has been building since 2013.

Huawei has continued to support Meng, and is hopeful that Canada’s judicial system will prove her innocence and restore freedom.

Meng is the eldest daughter of billionaire Huawei founder, Ren Zhengfei. The company claims the extradition is part of a wider ploy by the United States to ‘bring down’ high-tech Chinese companies.
