As Optus and Telstra race towards 5G connectivity, it seems smartphone makers are not far behind, with Chinese-based Huawei revealing its first 5G smartphone will arrive in Q3 2019.

The news comes as Huawei, ZTE and other Chinese smartphone manufacturers continue to reject allegations their products pose nation security risks to Western Governments.

Huawei announced its forthcoming 5G smartphone at its recent Global Analyst Summit in Shenzhen. The smartphone will launch shortly  after Huawei’s first 5G-supported mobile Wi-Fi hotspot.

Interestingly, both products will run on Huawei-designed modems.

Commentators speculate Huawei’s first 5G smartphone could be the “Mate 30”, based on the company’s prior release timeline.
