South Korean telco SK Broadband has connected residents in an apartment block in Seoul with a broadband service over fibre that can deliver a total shared bandwidth of 52.5Gbps, using technology from Nokia.

According to Nokia, SK Broadband has a goal of having gigabit broadband available to all citizens by 2020. “With this latest generation of fibre access technologies, SK Broadband aims to take its commitment yet one step further to offer speeds of 10Gbps to all its customers,” Nokia said.

It said SK Broadband had achieved this throughput over its existing fibre using a mix of technologies: TWDM-PON with 40Gbps symmetrical; XGS-PON with 10Gbps symmetrical; GPON with 2.5Gbps.
