SYDNEY: NEC A/NZ and a group of software developers have come up with a smartphone app, iQuarantine, that uses NEC’s face-recognition technology to enable users to report their location and health status from their homes.

The app prompts people to check-in numerous times a day, and confirms their location and current health status. 

When a user notifies health services they are OK, an update is automatically made in the iQuarantine case management portal, enabling health services to access individual case information, including status and priority of those in self-isolation.

Data storage is provided by Amazon Web Services and the app uses Amazon Connect AI technology, which provides chatbots that can ask and answer basic health-related questions.

Steven Graham, head of innovation and transformation at NEC A/NZ, said the company had worked with developers Fronde and Alphero to produce the app. – Stuart Corner
