NBN Co could be hit by a raft of new penalties that will affect its bottom line if Australia’s consumer watchdog enforces new proposals.

Under a new structure proposed by the ACCC, as the NBN rollout enters its final stages, retail service providers whose customers are affected by poor service, delayed connections and fault repairs will be eligible to receive increased rebates.

Missed NBN technician appointment rebates would increase from $25 to $75, with delays to connections and fault repairs incurring a daily payment to service providers, in place of a one-off payment. NBN Co will also face monthly $20 rebates for congestion that impacts fixed wireless services and $20 rebates for fixed-line services that fail minimum speed targets.
