Is this a signal as to where Nokia is heading? The Finnish phone maker appears to be ramping up its virtual reality efforts, a world apart from its low-cost smartphone strategy.

Nokia, which is launching its low-end 3,5 and 6 phone models in July, has appointed a senior Samsung executive to head its technologies unit.

It says Gregory Lee is well suited to advance the company’s efforts in virtual reality, digital health and beyond.

Lee is expected to take a front seat in furthering the development of Nokia’s Ozo VR system, which includes tools and a camera targeting developers.
