Worldwide top-five notebook brands saw their combined shipments drop 24 percent in July after closing US back-to-school demand in May, according to Taiwan-based news service DigiTimes.

Hewlett-Packard saw its July shipments slip nearly 30 percent on the month, but they still represent a five percent on-year rise. Lenovo experienced an over-30 percent on-month decline in the month, the worst of the top-five, due to trade tensions between the US and China and the depreciation of China’s currency.

Dell experienced a shipment drop of 16 percent, primarily due to a deceleration in its Chromebook procurement orders.

The top three makers’ combined shipments were down almost 20 percent in July, according to DigiTimes.
