Growth in online retail spending by Australians failed to eventuate in February, according to the latest retail figures by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
According to Stats, “Online retail turnover contributed 5.6 percent to total retail turnover in original terms in February 2019, which is unchanged from January 2019.”
However it notes that the figure is up year-to-year.
“In February 2018, online retail turnover contributed 5.1 percent to total retail,” Stats says.
Possible reasons for the stalled progress is presumably households still recovering from their Christmas spending and November’s big kick in online sales events, such as Click Frenzy.
The next Click Frenzy event is set for Tuesday, May 14.
Meanwhile conventional bricks-and-mortar store figures have shown some signs of life. The seasonally adjusted estimate for electrical and electronic goods retailing was up 1.2 percent, Stats estimates.
