Palm has made a comeback, releasing a tiny 3.3 inch smartphone ‘companion’ for US$349.99. The device will launch in the US in November, and claims to provide core apps in a smaller package, encouraging users to leave their smartphone at home and “stay present”.

The device comes from a San Fran start-up lead by ex-Samsung designers, Dennis Miloseski and Howard Nuk, after purchasing Palm’s trademark rights from TCL.

The credit card sized device does not claim to be a full smartphone, rather a companion device, using the same mobile number as a user’s primary phone.

Despite its small size, the handset runs a full version of Android 8.1, Snapdragon 435 processor, 12MP rear camera and 8MP front, with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.

The device supports a single USB-C port, and does not feature a headphone jack, nor support wireless charging.

Palm’s new companion device is currently exclusive to Verizon, and whilst incorporating a 4G LTE chip, some commentators claim is simply an exaggerated smartwatch.
