Like any market it’s subject to supply and demand, and the rush to online-shopping during the pandemic has driven prices higher.
A study by Adobe, which analysed a trillion US retail site visits across 18 product categories matched to the US CPI, found online prices jumped 2.3 percent in June on an annual basis. They had fallen an average 3.9 percent annually from 2014 to 2019 but began turning higher last year.
Online price of appliances have jumped 2.3 percent, while online apparel has increased 16.2 percent.
