When Amazon-owned Ring launched its new outdoor siren, with a stylish blue octagonal design, security specialist ADT saw red.
The company launched a cause and desist against Amazon back in April, claiming the Ring Outdoor Siren design was “virtually indistinguishable from ADT’s iconic blue octagon mark.”
Fair point, I guess. It’s not every day you see a major company using a blue octagon as a logo.
Now the two have settled the trademark dispute, with the result being that Ring will discontinue its current blue octagon item and launch an updated version.
“ADT and Ring are pleased to have reached a mutually agreeable resolution,” said David Smail, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer at ADT.
“Ring will release a new version of the Outdoor Siren product and will discontinue the marketing and sale of the current design.
