Samsung has further expanded its affordable handset range, now unveiling what the company claims is its cheapest 5G smartphone yet – the ‘Galaxy A42 5G.’

The product will retail for around US$455 [£349], and is more affordable than the former Samsung Galaxy A51 5G.

The Galaxy A42 5G harnesses the recently unveiled Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor, which caters to mid-range devices and price-conscious consumers.

The new handset will sport a 6.6″ OLED display screen, complete with 5,000mAh battery and in-screen fingerprint reader.

A teardrop front cut-out offers a 20MP ‘selfie’ camera, with the rear housing a quad-lens set-up including a 48MP lens and 5MP depth sensor for portrait effects.

The new Samsung Galaxy A42 will launch in the United Kingdom in November, with broader international availibity to be confirmed.

The handset offers 4GB – 8GB RAM (model dependent), plus 128GB storage which is expandable via microSD – offering a compelling value proposition amidst the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
