Samsung has fallen short of its shipment goals by about 40 million units for 2021, despite impressive pre-sales for its new foldables, and a strong start to the year with the Galaxy S21.

Unfortunately, the company has missed its own targets for every device, with increased competition from Xiaomi and supply chain issues causing havoc.

Samsung is still painting a rosy picture, despite these issues.

“We are thankful for the great customer response to our new Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3,” they write.

“Interest in foldable smartphones is at an all-time high, with pre-order volume for Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 already outpacing total sales for Galaxy Z devices to date in 2021. We’re committed to providing the most innovative experiences to our consumers.”

Production for the S21 FE starts this month, with the S22 going into mass production this November, so it is possible things won’t be as dire as they look.
