An update to Samsung’s S10 smartphone that was supposed to improve stability has instead crashed devices around the world and rendered some handsets basically unusable.

Samsung has since pulled the update, which was first released on Saturday.

Android-focused website AusDroid reported problems with third-party launchers and apps following the update, with many users also complaining on social media.

The “XXU1ASE5” update featured a May 2019 security patch as well as improvements to the camera’s night mode feature and the stability of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The update also caused problems with the screen’s fingerprint sensor, restarting the phone, and answering calls.

The bugs reportedly don’t affect Australian devices.

A Samsung spokesperson told the Daily Telegraph local versions of the S10 were yet to have the update rolled out.

Samsung-focused website SamMobile is reporting a new update has been rolled out to phones in Switzerland which may fix the problems.
