Recent reports reveal Samsung is planning to overhaul its QLED TV production process, with the debut of a 2019 TV range featuring new quantum dot on glass technology.

According to Korea’s Digital Daily, Samsung’s new QLED technology will replace quantum dot enhancement film with glass, for the production of light guide plates and backlit modules.

The new process is said to be more cost effective, and further reduce TV thickness.

More importantly, the new process reportedly allows Samsung to produce 8K QLED panels, and enhance its position in the premium TV market.

The change in QLED TV production process is tipped to cause a major shift in Samsung’s supply chain.
