Samsung will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chip in some versions of the next Galaxy S smartphone, Bloomberg has reported people with direct knowledge of the matter as stating.

The move would come following Samsung last year opting to use its own line of processors in its flagship Galaxy S6 smartphones.

Samsung will continue to use its own processors in about half of its flagship product line, with phones for China and the US mostly using Snapdragon, Bloomberg reported the people as stating.

Samsung this week announced that it has begun mass production of advanced logic chips utilising its 14nm LPP process, the second generation of its 14nm FinFET process technology.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor uses Samsung’s new 14nm LPP process, with Samsung stating that it is expected to make its way to devices in the first half of this year.

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 will have a 5.1″ display, with the S7 edge to sport a 5.5″ display, Bloomberg reported one of the people as stating.

Bloomberg reported another person as stating that Samsung plans to release the products for sale in March.
